Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Exposes NDC On Education Minister’s Meeting With Executives Of Private Schools Association
The Private Schools’ proprietors and their Teachers’ Associations had raised concerns about the President’s announcement on the projected re-opening of Schools in January 2021 and how COVID-19 had affected them.
The President subsequently directed that MoE/GES meet them, listen to them and propose some relief package for them.
MoE/GES led by the Minister(Napo) met the various Private Schools Associations on Thursday and Friday, September 4th and 5th, 2020. I recollect the President alluding to this in his recent media encounter with Oman Fm.
After the meeting, the Minister directed the GES to make some suggestions or recommendations for support for the Private Schools. Suggestions and recommendations made included initiatives such as government support for the Private Schools to procure learning management system to support E-Learning programs and help train their teachers how to use the system; offer to the schools tax holidays for one year with the condition that they keep the teachers in their employment; provide guarantees to the schools to securely answer to pay back after schools return to normalcy; alternatively, provide interest-free loans among other incentives and support services!
At no point during the meeting was the idea of including Private Schools in the execution and implementation of Free SHS program discussed or raised!
